Robbert Vermeulen

Robbert Vermeulen was born on the 7th of September 1986 in Delft (Netherlands). At the RMA Music School, located in the city of Amersfoort, he got his first guitar lesson at the age of 8 from Pavel Steidl. After Pavel left the school, Leon de Kroes became his teacher. To fully focus on his preparation on studying the guitar, he simultaneously took on private lessons with Jan Irving.

In 2005 Robbert competed for the first time at the EGTA guitar competition and in 2007 he won the first prize. By the end of that year Robbert decided to move to Germany to fully dedicate himself to studying the guitar and began his studies with Prof. Hubert Käppel at the Koblenz International Guitar Academy. During this study he travelled to the Netherlands for several performances and won the first prize at the National Guitar Award.

In 2009 Robbert took the next step in his career and was admitted to the Bachelor’s degree program of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln where he continued his lessons with Hübert Käppel. This resulted in graduating in the fall of 2013 and obtaining the Bachelor degree of guitar.

Robbert’s curiosity and enthusiasm for music led to the start of Duo Laró. Together with Tenor Lasse Siefert an album was recorded (Zwischen Liebe und Tod, 2014) which could be described as as a intimate concert in your living room. They performed on numerous occasions at various locations in Germany and the Netherlands. In March 2012 they won the Third Price at the Barmenia Competition in Wuppertal.

In the fall of 2014 Robbert continued his study at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln by starting his Master Studies of Guitar with Roberto Aussel. In addition, inspired by music from the Renaissance, he started a Bachelor degree Theorbo with Konrad Junghänel.

Besides studying the Theorbo, Robbert is part of Cembaless (www.cembaless.com), an ensemble of six concerto soloists with which he won the public prize at the Biagio-Marini-Wettbewerbs in Neuburg an der Donau.
