Alexandros Kavvadas

Alexandros Kavvades, born in 1988, studied at the Athens Conservatoire. During his studies he was member of a number of choirs, and he followed courses in choir and orchestral direction with Spyros Klapsis, Per-Otto Johansson, Maurizio Ciampi and Michalis Economou. From 2012 to 2015 he studied Choir Direction at Maastricht Conservatoire. He followed masterclasses with Ludo Claesen and worked with choirs and orchestras throughout Limburg - he was director of Vocal Ensemble VoiceArt in Gulpen, among others. From 2014 to 2015 he studied in Rome where he directed the Prima Prattica Ensemble which focused on Renaissance repertoire. In 2015 Alexandros won prizes during masterclasses orchestral direction with Michalis Economou, Athanasia Kyriakidou and the Athens Symphony Orchestra. Alexandros now follows the master course Choir Direction at Maastricht Conservatoire with Ludo Claesen. For a year he directed Ensemble Spero Nova which performed Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle throughout the Netherlands. He works as repetiteur and assistant director for the opera productions at Maastricht Conservatoire. Apart from choir singing and direction, Alexandros is interested in the analysis of musical compositions. During his studies at Athens Conservatoire he focused on Beethoven's sonatas and Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier with Spyros Klapsis. In 2010 he completed his studies Harmony and Analysis with distinction, and succeeded them with advanced studies Counterpoint. Alexandros also followed a masterclass "Music Analysis and Musical Systems from Palestrina to Messiaen". From 2014 to 2015 he studied harpsichord and basso-continuo at the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire in Rome, where he also delved into the analysis of musical styles of the baroque period. His main instrument is the piano, for which he qualified as a teacher in Athens in 2011. After that he studied with Alexandra Papastefanou and Andreas Marchand, with whom he focused on the repertoire of Bach, Beethoven and Schumann. Alexandros is a singer too. He was a tenor in the choir of Opera Zuyd and participated in performances of La Traviata in the main Dutch concert halls.
